Great American Chocolate Kids Party @ MLH

Do you love chocolates ? Do you love doodling ? Why not combine the two with us on 31st July at the Beach hut, when we unveil the “Great American Chocolate Kids Party”. What kid doesn’t love chocolate ? No matter what your age everyone loves chocolate. It has been an all time favourite not just by the kids, kids at heart and adults.
The Kids’ chocolate party will provide maximum fun, whilst letting creative imaginations run wild. Once the kids have donned their aprons, washed their hands it would be time to get stuck into create their own chocolate sensation. The party will last for three hours, with the majority of the time spent making a wide range of sweet things. Kids will get a chance can get in touch with their inner sweetness. The kids will work in small groups under the guidance of the chocolatiers who will introduce a variety of techniques, enabling the youngsters to create a wide range of treats varying from simple florentines to a multi-stage decorated eggs or moulded chocolate lollipops.
Towards the end of the session kids can enjoy milkshakes, cakes and each child will take home a chocolate bowl full of goodies. If all this talk of chocolate is starting to whet your appetite, get ready to spend a fun afternoon !
A “choctastic, sticky and thoroughly messy, but a totally inspired choice, as its not all you mothers who would be cleaning up ! So mums out there, bring your kids along to “The Great American Chocolate Kids party” which will take place on 31st July from 3.30-6.30pm, for a fun and interactive Sunday afternoon.
Kids under 8 years and above Rs 1000/- nett and Kids between 2-7 Rs 750/- nett.

Swiss Food Promotion Opening Night @ MLH

“Food and Drink keep body and soul together” is a proverb often displayed in kitchen and dining rooms at Swiss homes. It shows that they take food seriously and meals are the center of family life.

Mount Lavinia hotel will once again celebrate a week long fête, along with executive chef Alexander Kroll from the Widder Hotel in Zurich and Executive Chef Oliver Barda from the Great Adlon hotel in Berlin. This enthusiastic duo will certainly create the ultimate Swiss Gastronomy experience, at our very own Mount Lavinia Hotel. The Swiss Food Promotion at MLH will be launched on the 27th July and will go on till the 2nd August.

Chef Alexander Kroll, Executive Chef Widder Hotel Zurich, had the privilege of cooking for the President of the United States, Bill Clinton for his private dinners. His experience was deepened with a 2 year service at the Private Gourmet Service, Formula 1 (Spa Belgium/and Monaco) owned by Mr Michael Schumacher, where he was the Executive Chef. Chef Alexander has also offered his expertise at charity events in Africa as well as in Ethiopia.

Chef Oliver Barda – Executive Chef from the Great Adlon Hotel Berlin – Has 22 years of experience in this trade serving in renowned hotel restaurants in Germany and Switzerland. One key aspect of Oliver’s culinary creations would be the use of fresh, seasonal produce from organic farms. He is known for his expertise, on emphasizing the natural unprocessed products, refined with international delicacies, herbs and spices in an innovative and intensifying manner. The result is a classical gourmet cuisine.

The Swiss menu will include all time favorite items such as, Raclette, Fondue, creamy chicken and mountain ham cordon bleu, oven-baked polenta, Swiss inspired creamy pork stew and a variety of deserts that are synonymous with Switzerland.

“Swiss Food which is based on culinary heritage blended into colonial heritage of MLH will surface an authentic food festival that really shows that we take our food seriously and indeed the center of concentration states Mr Anura Dewapura, General Manager Mount Lavinia Hotel. He further adds, “Swiss Master Chefs are flown to celebrate this exquisite Swiss Culinary Journey, for the diverse Sri Lankan palate. It will certainly be a unique food experience for those who appreciate authentic Swiss Food”.

The White House State Dinner at MLH

What’s the best place for a White House State Dinner? culinary creations from the white house himself will be served at Sri Lanka’s very own White House on 9th and 10th July 2011.
“For the last eleven years, I have had the honor of doing daily what most chefs would be lucky to do once in their life time. That honor was serving the First Family of the United States”. These are the words of Walter Scheib as his forte lies in serving up a taste in stories and recipes of his eleven years as the White House chef under Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush from a unique vantage point: The kitchen, which will be presented to Sri Lanka on 9th and 10th July at the Mount Lavinia Hotel, where an all american dinners inspired by Walter Scheib will take centre stage.
“I had to cook everything from food for the first family to state dinners for 900 and picnics for 600,” recalled Scheib and continued to state that his job involved travelling all over the world with the President and First Lady.
Scheib’s White House achievement was his creation of a distinctly American repertoire for the nation’s First House. The evenings will be totally focused on all the White House remembrances that ranged from State Dinner Secrets to throwing the White House Birthday Party. He will touch on concepts such as White House style cocktail reception, First Lady Luncheons, State Dinners, and Outdoor “South Lawn” and Rose Garden barbecues and picnics and most of all the fascinating White House insider’s anecdotes, culinary insights, team building and bonding, as well as, exercises with a culinary twist; hands-on cooking demonstration and interaction. Yes, indeed the evening will be comprised of revealing anecdotes, photographs, menus, and special White House recipes—and indeed it will be a treat for everyone who loves food, politics, or both.
When asked about his memorable times at Sri Lanka’s White House: Mount Lavinia Hotel and The White House in the US of A, here were his comments. “A country is represented by its people. And the hotel along with the country exceeded my dreams.” He states just before when Chelsea Clinton left for college she spent six weeks with the Chef Scheib and after we had done with her we awarded her a certificate and the one and only graduate from the Walter Scheib White House Cooking School.
The two nights at MLH will be scheduled for 9th and 10th July…All nights will be a tasty 5 course menu with selected beverages for the price.
Saturday, 9th July – White House State Dinner from 8pm onwards at the Maitland State Room exclusively for Sampath Bank. Sampath Bank is partnering with the Mount Lavinia Hotel to offer a unique opportunity to their Infinite Cardholders, to meet and dine, with Chef Scheib. According to the officials of Sampath Bank, the only Bank in Sri Lanka, to offer the Infinite credit card, the most prestigious of Visa Card products.

“Scheib has proven that he can pretty satisfy any palette, and I had the privilege of working with him in an occasion in the US, which was an experience of a lifetime,” states Mr Anura Dewapura of Mount Lavinia Hotel. Other sponsors are Sampath Bank, and Stassens. And Walter Scheib was flown in by Sri Lanka’s very own national carrier: SriLankan Airlines.
